In our industry, we need to be creative every single day. Naturally, with this constant pressure, we may hit a wall and develop a creative block. This is normal, so don’t worry.

With these tips on how to boost and grow your creative skills, you’ll soon be up and out of your creative rut in no time!

Go For a Walk

This is one of my go-to tricks when I feel like my creative juices are running low. In 2014, a study found that people tend to be more creative when they are walking rather than when they are sitting, so it’s no surprise that going for a quick walk can get you feeling creative in no time!

As a side note, this is why standing desks are very popular in the creative community. They provide not only good, passive exercise, but also help to make users be more creative during the day.

Surround Yourself with Inspiration

This may not be a quick fix for creative block, but in the long run, surrounding yourself with items, art and trinkets that inspire you is a sure-fire way of boosting your creativity. Stimulating environments help to facilitate creativity, so surround yourself with things you find inspiring.

Litter your office with wall art, interesting ornaments and more. It also doesn’t hurt to set up a Pinterest page to catalogue everything you find inspiring!

If you’re looking for more ways to find inspiration online, you’ll find this very helpful.

Daydream

We’ve been told our whole lives that sitting down and letting your mind wander is bad for you. If you’re not doing anything productive, you’re making a mistake, right?

Wrong!

When you’re feeling a creative block, take a few moments to sit down and just let your mind do whatever it wants. You’ll be surprised by what you come up with when you let your mind wander completely uninterrupted.

Makes Notes … About Everything

When I say that I make notes on everything, I mean that I make notes on EVERYTHING. At any one time, I have around five notebooks (both physical and digital) on the go. I’ve found that writing something down helps me to remember it much better.

And a bonus is that if I’m ever stuck in a creative rut, or in desperate need of an idea, I have tons and tons of notebooks that I can go back through to find inspiration. Honestly, I’ve lost count of how many times my old notebooks have come to the rescue.
